YEAR BY YEAR
1986...
CLUBLIFE
- Finally, a "board of directors" is chosen (Paul,
Hugo, Annette, Marc), as it should be in every democratic club.
Paul De Bie is elected president.
Ex-president Jacques leaves the club, taking a couple of his
"oldies" with him, and starts a new club. Very
annoying is the fact that they call themselves "Avernus
VZW", in a desperate attempt to try to pretend that nothing
has happened....
The "real" SC Avernus is very relieved: finally no more
conflicts, no more division. We start with 17 members but
even before the end of the year we already have 30! The
club is now financially healthy at last, we are very motivated
and a great teamspirit is there as well.
BELGIUM
- In Belgium we must have turned every available cave inside out
by now. Some of us can't suppress their desire to find
their "own" cave any longer and frantically we dig and
work at several interesting locations... without results however.
- At the demand of the VVS we rig the entire caving circuit at
the Berdorf rocks (Luxembourg), quite an undertaking (over 1 km
of rope).
FOREIGN CAVING
We really go for it this time, in France. We go several
times to the Doubs of course, where we bottom the deepest and
biggest caves available (Montaigu (-385m), Pourpevelle, Verneau,
Vauvougier), but we also head to the Vercors. Besides some
classic caves there, we participate in an expedition in the
"Gouffre Berger". It is one of the deepest (-1255
m), most beautiful and complete caves in the world.
Unfortunately the other group's ambitions aren't very high, so we
"only" reach -705m. Not bad for a bunch of
"juniors".
